Melissa and I were both baptized at a young age. Like most Christians, we have had on-again / off-again relationships with Jesus. We struggle with our human natures that keep us seperate from the Father. We are lucky to be together and strive to hold each other accountable. We are not perfect and we are not sinless. If we were than we would not need Jesus or his sacrifice.
Melissa and I were married at Meadowview Baptist Church in Starkville, Ms on June 13, 1998. We attended Meadowview for several years following our marriage. Unfortunately, we let our busy lives and my job with Taco Bell get in the way of our regular attendance. I am ashamed to say that our faith suffered.
In 2007, I left Taco Bell to seek better opportunities. I am not sure if this was any great leap of spiritual faith on my part, but it was somehting that I had prayed about. I put my faith in God to help us out of the hole we were in and he did not let me down. During my job transition, we started attending Faith Baptist Church. Within the first couple of weeks, we knew that we had truly found a new Church Home. Faith Baptist Church has been a blessing on so many levels for us and our marriage.
Discipleship is our most important mandate from our Savior, Jesus Christ. The Great Commision is Jesus's last command to his Disciples. As stated in the Gospel of Matthew, Jesus spoke saying:
"All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age." (Matthew 28:18-20)
The Great Commission is our mandate as faithful followers and believers of Christ. I long ago admitted I am not perfect. Only thru Jesus's sacrifice am I cleansed of my sin. Only thru my acceptance of his sacfrice will I be allowed to go to heaven to be with the Father for Eternity. And, only thru my actions can I show others the truth of Jesus's Love. As commanded by Christ, it is our duty to teach others, to make new Disciples in the Father's name.
If you would like to know more about Discipleship, I recommend the following things. First, Faith Baptist Church has a breakfast service called Men of Faith. We meet the first Sunday of every month to discuss issues that specifically relate to Men. Second, Please goto the website ToBeLikeHim.com. I am helping my father to revise this site. The material written there is by men I highly respect and admire and is geared towards teaching and inspiring you to follow God's word. And, lastly please contact me. Discipleship is an ongoing process. We all grow together thru fellowship, and accountability. I am still learning. There are those that know more than I and those that know less, and we are all brothers, followers, and Disciples of Christ Jesus.
Be careful what you wish for. You may get a room full of children with more energy than you.
Melissa and I were looking for a way to become more involved at Faith Baptist Church. I don't sing (trust me it isn't pretty!) but Melissa loves to sing and so one day she had the bright idea of starting a children's choir at our church. After consulting with our Choir Director Melissa was given the go ahead to start a children's choir, and that is how KidzPraise was started.
Neither Melissa nor I have any training musically, but thanks to Melissa our own children love to sing and are often heard belting out christian tunes. As I said earlier we don't have any musical training, so we aren't teaching them how to sing so much as providing them a place to sing and praise God in their own way. It is a blessing to watch the kids jump around and sing. If you are interested in joining us, please check out Faith Baptist Church's website for scheduled times.
